About Ashley

Meet Ashley L. Karel, PMHNP-BC, founder of Lumina Mental Wellness, a practice dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized mental health care to Vicksburg and the surrounding area.

Ashley began her academic journey at Mississippi State University, majoring in microbiology, and went on to earn both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2008) and Master of Science in Nursing (2011) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Since then, she has cared for patients across the lifespan in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition to her clinical work, Ashley has also shared her expertise as an instructor in the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program at UMMC.

With more than a decade of experience, Ashley brings a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to mental wellness, grounded in her deep understanding of each individual’s unique needs.

With a deep commitment to helping others achieve mental wellness, Ashley created Lumina Mental Wellness as a space where clients can feel seen, supported and empowered. She is honored to continue serving the community that has supported her throughout her career - offering a place of support, healing and hope for all.

Outside of her professional life, Ashley is a proud wife and mother of three who can often be found enthusiastically cheering from the sidelines at baseball games and dance competitions.
